Tasty treats on Pancake Tuesday

Tasty treats on Pancake Tuesday

10 February 2016

PANCAKE Tuesday was celebrated in style at Olive Bizarre in Newcastle as part of Newry Mourne and Down’s ‘Taste Junction’ promotion.

The quirky coffee shop and eatery had everything from fresh crepes and blueberry pancakes to delicious nutella and banana creations on offer.

Taste Junction, linked with the Tourism NI Year of Food brand, is a recently launched venture to showcase the food and drink products available throughout the district with a number of events such as food tours, twilight markets, beer festivals and special menus.

Chair of Newry, Mourne and Down Council, Mickey Ruane, said food and drink had become increasingly important to tourism.

“The key to maximising and raising awareness of the quality and diverse food and drink offering our region has will be through Council and the industry working together,” he said. “It is great to see local businesses using opportunities such as Pancake Tuesday to raise awareness of the great offering they have available.

“Visitors can learn about our heritage, landscape and culture and meet our people through our food and drink experiences.”

Newry Mourne and Down Council is asking those interested in getting involved in Year of Food and Drink to contact the Visitor Information Centre.
