Students told of the work of Knights of Columbanus

6 May 2015

MEMBERS of the local branch of the Knights of St. Columbanus recently held a Look at Life seminar for a group of students at St Mary’s High School in Downpatrick.

The Knights were welcomed by senior teacher Mairead Arkins, with Fr Martin Graham — a native of Downpatrick — opening the first session speaking on the roll of the youth in the church today and the importance of youth involvement in activities within the Catholic Church.

Fr Martin said while the path of life can present many difficulties, “there is always help out there for young people.”

The second presentation given by Friends of Cuan Mhuire, saw Genna and Pat speak on the addiction of drugs, alcohol and gambling and the effects these abuses have on the individual and their extended families and friends. Many questions were raised from the floor on both presentations.

Look at Life is a youth project organised by the Knights’ Downpatrick branch and has been running for a number of years in secondary schools in the Co. Down area. Mrs Arkins thanked the Knights and students for their participation.
