Siobhán memorial is success

Siobhán memorial is success

3 April 2024

IT was another fantastic annual Siobhán McCann Memorial Sevens tournament which recently took place at St John’s with a massive turnout on the day.

The Drumnaquoile club yet again hosted the event in memory of their dear friend and Gael Siobhán and there were some terrific displays of football played throughout the day from teams who travelled near and far to compete in the tournament.

There were representatives from throughout Ulster and notably from Siobhán’s former team, Dulwich Harps, who made the trip from London and which are a team that will always have a special place in the hearts of the St John’s club members.

Thanks are extended to all who contributed, from setting up and preparing for the tournament, the numerous volunteers who helped throughout the day, to all the businesses and individuals who very kindly donated the fantastic prizes for the raffle, and in other various ways, the generosity was overwhelming.

Also to the officials for giving up their time to ensure all games were played and to a high standard and finally to all 18 teams who entered as without them all, the day would not have been the success it was.

A special word of thanks also goes to main tournament sponsor, Tractormatic Ltd.

Also to: Fresh Food Centre for supplying the team with food and refreshments, Murphy’s Gaelic Gloves for donating a set of new training balls for each winning team, Taste Of New York Pizzeria, Castlewellan, for their kind donation of pizzas for the volunteers, Gareth Carville of Emerald Visions for capturing the day in photos and lastly but by no means least, to Cailin Molloy of Rox Media for capturing the day in motion and for the coverage they have provided.

Congratulations to the tournament winners and individual awards: Senior Cup winners, Trillick, St Macartan’s (Tyrone); Junior Plate winners, St John’s GAC; senior player of the tournament, Dearbhaile Gallagher (Trillick); junior player of the tournament, Brea McKee (St John’s); officials, Helen Rice, Eugene O’Hare, Francis Rogan and Liam Morgan.
