Showjumper Conor set for Dublin Show

22 July 2015

DARRAGH Cross showjumper Conor Swail has once again been selected to represent Ireland in the prestigious Nations Cup at next month’s Dublin Horse Show.

It’s the third time Conor has been picked for the Irish team, which will be seeking to regain the Aga Khan Trophy after a three-year gap.

The 43 year-old had an injury-ravaged 2014, but right now he’s in top form after back-to-back wins at a major event in Canada less than three weeks ago.

Now ranked number four in Ireland and 47th in the world, Conor says there is nothing like performing in front of home fans at the RDS in Dublin.

“To jump a clear round in front of a home crowd in Dublin is one of the best feelings in the world,” he said.

“Any Irish rider will tell you that is one of the things you want to achieve in your career.”

Conor will be taking three horses to the RDS and is looking forward to a good week. He also has his sights set on the European Championships which take place later in August and are the last qualifier for next year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

It’s a busy life being a top showjumper. Conor is based for four or five months of the year in Florida and also has a house in the Irish Republic, although he still manages to spend some time in Darragh Cross.

He was competing in Germany last week and later this week he will be heading to another top meeting in Spain. After that he’ll be crossing the Atlantic to take part in another major event in Toronto.
