Sharvin bids farewell

15 December 2021

KILLYLEAGH YC manager Paul Sharvin has resigned, citing personal reasons as the catalyst for his departure.

Sharvin has enjoyed four successful years at the club, with the highlight being promotion back into the Amateur League Premier Section in a season that his side went unbeaten away from home in their league campaign.

Most recently, he guided Killyleagh to the semi-finals of this year’s Border Cup — they lost 5-3 to Derriaghy at Seaview a couple of weeks ago.

Sharvin says his decision is not based on recent results and that he is leaving of his own accord and with fond memories of a club that will remain close to his heart.

“I spent the last four years of my life dedicated to the club and I loved working with all the players, making memories that will stay with me,” he said.

“When we won a game at the weekend, I would be as proud as a peacock walking around Killyleagh and it would set me up for a great next week.

“When we lost, I instantly felt the opposite effect — that’s how much the club means to me.”

Sharvin also lived out a small dream of managing his three sons, Jon Joe, Jamie and Jack, in the same team at the same time.

“That was special for me, I had my boys all together in the one place and with me being able to go through the good and bad times as a family.

“I’ll always cherish that. It’s been a sad weekend but it has to be done, I have to think of myself, my wife and family first.”

Killyleagh YC chairman Dee Heron said: “We want to thank Paul for his commitment and dedication over the past four years.

“He got us promoted back to the Premier Section. As a club we are grateful.

“We want to wish him all the best for the future.’’
