Seeing red

SIR, — I have to express my concern after three cars drove past me at the Bryansford Road junction with Bryansford Avenue in Newcastle last Sunday when a set of temporary traffic lights were indicating red.

I completely understand how people are busy and additional traffic delays are frustrating. However, driving through red lights is firstly an offence but is also causing major confusion for other road users.

Motorists at the other side of the traffic lights at this part of the resort  believed that their lights were not functioning and very quickly there is traffic mayhem.

I would appeal to people to simply wait. The lights are working — they just take time. Jumping the lights really does cause havoc for other road users.

Yours etc,

CLLR LAURA DEVLIN,

Newcastle.
