Seana Madine

THERE was a profound sense of grief in the Ballynahinch and surrounding area following the tragic and untimely death of Seana Madine on Saturday, April 20.

Only a month ago she gave birth to her beautiful daughter Tia and was looking forward to the joys and challenges of motherhood in the weeks, months and years ahead. She was due to celebrate her nineteenth birthday on May 3.

Seana was studying beauty therapy as a student of Downpatrick SERC and had a great interest in fashion and style. She was an extremely popular student and enjoyed the company and friendship of her many friends and colleagues at college, many of whom attended her funeral Mass in large numbers.

Seana was educated at St. Brigid’s PS, Downpatrick, and St. Mary’s HS, Downpatrick, before taking up further education at Downpatrick SERC.

There was a touching tribute prior to the funeral service when many of her fellow students formed a guard of honour as her remains were brought into St. Patrick’s Church.

The church was packed to overflowing during the funeral service conducted by Fr. Des Loughran with hymns beautifully sung by Andrea Rice. With the voice of Emeli Sande singing Clown echoing across the cemetery there were emotional scenes as dozens of Seana’s friends placed flowers in her grave alongside her inconsolable family and partner Caomhan.

Seana is survived by her mother Debbie, step-father Paul, father Joe, partner Caomhan Lennon, brothers Coilan, Barry and Ethan, sister Kayley and the wider family circle.

Her Month’s Mind Mass will take place at St. Patrick’s Church, Ballynahinch, on Sunday, May 19, at 11.30am.
