CHILDREN at a Downpatrick primary school are celebrating after receiving a major ecological

accolade.

St Colmcille’s Primary School has been presented with the Green Tree Schools Gold Award from the Woodland Trust.

All children in school participated in numerous activities and experiences to develop an understanding and enthusiasm for learning about trees, woods and wildlife.

“Throughout the project, pupils have taken part in fun, practical projects while helping the environment and improving our school grounds,” Mr Steven Austin, principal, explained.

“The activities were completed in conjunction with our Eco Schools programme, with a focus on the topics of school grounds and biodiversity.”

He added: “As a school, our focus on outdoor learning is embedded throughout all areas of learning and we are very proud that the pupil’s hard work and enthusiasm has been rewarded with this award presented as a beautiful wooden plaque.”
