School is delighted by inspection report

HOLY Family Primary School in Teconnaught has received a glowing report following a recent inspection.

The school was one of the first in Northern Ireland to receive the new two-day Monitoring Inspection in December 2016, in which the school is given 48 hours notice. The focus is on how the school uses self-evaluation to develop its planning process and bring about improvement.

The school was awarded the highest outcome possible by this type of inspection, with outstanding practices in management, teaching, assessment and achievements observed.

Amongst the key findings was the following assessment: “Overall the children achieve a very high standard in reading evidenced by the work in their books, their responses in class and the school’s internal assessment data. From foundation stage, the children are developing very well the skill of inference through the exploration of a variety of texts.

“By Key Stage 2, the children have an excellent understanding of a wide range of language devices and are able to compare, contrast and evaluate confidently increasingly challenging texts.

“The provision for reading is characterised by well-planned lessons which are clearly differentiated. The teachers’ very effective questioning promotes well the children’s thinking and language development.”

In conclusion, the inspection report noted: “The school is identifying and bringing about the necessary improvements in the quality of education. This will be reflected in future inspection arrangements.”

The principal of Holy Family Primary School, Christopher Curran, said the very positive inspection report confirmed the dedication and hard work of all the staff.

“The report identifies the steps and actions which have been taken within the school to promote improvement and raise standards, and most importantly the impact this has had on achievements and the learning and teaching,” he said.

“At the Holy Family we continue to strive to ensure all the children receive a high standard of education in a happy and secure learning environment.”
