A BRIGHT woman completed a footballing double in the space of seven days.

Sarah Venney helped Bright GAC to the Down Ladies Junior Football Championship on Sunday. A week earlier, she captained Linfield Ladies to victory over Glentoran in the County Antrim FA Women’s Challenge Cup final.

Sarah (27) was also named player of the match when Bright beat Loughinisland in the Down JFC final at Hilltown.

Sarah, who has played soccer for Rossglass County, Downpatrick FC and Killyleagh YC, joined Linfield three years ago after a short spell with Cliftonville.

The talented midfielder was joined in the Linfield team by former Rossglass team-mate Emma McAleese and Saintfield’s Nichola McWilliams.

Sarah put the icing on the cake in her side’s 4-0 win over Glentoran when she scored the last goal of the game.

Seven days later she gave an imperious display to lead Bright to a sensational 1-10 to 0-8 victory over Loughinisland to complete a league and championship double for Bright

“It has been a hectic schedule, but I love every minute of it,” Sarah said last night.

“It was an unbelievable feeling when we beat Glentoran for the first time ever in the cup final,” she said.

“The Glens are the top team. They’ve already won the league, so to get that win against quality opposition was just a brilliant achievement.”

She continued: “I want to win more trophies with Linfield and also help Bright as we have now qualified for the Ulster Junior Football Championship.

“I will just keep working hard in training and hopefully keep this great run of results going.

“I really enjoy playing both codes and apart from a shoulder operation a few years ago I am injury free and ready for more action.”
