Saintfield horse show launched

27 July 2016

THIS year’s Saintfield Horse Show was recently launched in style on a beautiful summer’s evening in the magnificent grounds of Rowallane Garden, with the event kindly hosted by the National Trust.

Show Director, Joan Cunningham, welcomed the large crowd who attended and thanked everyone for their continued support for the event which continues to grow in popularity.

This year’s show takes place at Tyrella on Saturday, August 13 and will feature around 120 classes ranging from show jumping for horses and ponies, working hunters, horse showing, ridden hunters, cobs, happy hackers, miniature horses, show ponies and Shetlands, with in-hand showing for both horses and ponies.

The Ulster Tatler Ladies Side-Saddle, Downpatrick race course’s race horse to riding horse and, due to popular

demand, the donkey classes, have made a comeback for this year’s show. If you don’t have a horse, pony or donkey, don’t despair, why not have a go in the novelty dog show?

In addition, you cannot miss Delaney’s Musical Donkeys; this is big, big craic, with this particular feature compared by Gerard Dornan (Country Harmony) and Box Car Brian.

There will also be  a variety of food on offer or why not treat yourself to a full lunch in the marquee and enjoy being entertained by Country Harmony and Box Car Brian.

Entries for trade stands are now being taken. A three metre by three metre trade stand will cost £20 or why not bring your own gazebo for no extra cost. The prize for larger trade stands can be negotiated by getting in touch, while the best/most appropriately dressed lady competition will take place in the champagne and wine bar in the marquee facing ring one around  at 2pm.

Admission to next weekend’s show is £2.50 for adults, with children admitted free. Car parking in the main show field is also free, while there will be special parking facilities for elderly or disabled people right in the heart of the show with easy access to public toilets etc.
