Run-down play park problems need addressed

10 February 2016

COUNCIL officials have been urged to cary out much-needed repairs to Killough’s play park.

The appeal has been issued by councillors Gareth Sharvin and Colin McGrath in response to local concern that repairs to correct a number of defects have not yet taken place.

Councillor Sharvin said residents in the village are “deeply disappointed” the state of the play park has been allowed to deteriorate. He said residents are concerned about the appearance of equipment, gaps in the play surface and lack of litter bins.

He continued: “I have spoken with the relevant council department and have asked for improvement work to be carried out as soon as possible. It is important the play surface is repaired with the issue of the defective play equipment also addressed.”

Councillor McGrath described play parks as an “integral part of the local community” and as such it is important they are safe and secure for our children to use.

He added: “I am fully supported in Gareth’s call for the appropriate repairs to be carried out to meet the needs of children in Killough. It is not acceptable play facilities are not maintained or updated.”
