Rubey to lose her locks for cancer charity

28 September 2016

A YOUNG Downpatrick girl who wants to help children undergoing cancer treatment will have her flowing locks cut off this Friday morning to raise money for the Little Princess Trust.

The charity provides real hair wigs for children suffering with hair loss as a result of cancer treatment and seven year-old Legamaddy Primary School pupil Rubey Medwell determined to do what she can to help.

In addition to her sponsored hair cut in front of the whole school during morning assembly, Rubey’s mum Lisa will be organising a cake sale to raise money for the charity which helps children across Ireland and the UK.

Rubey’s hair is currently 19 inches long and it is over a year-and-a-half since she has had a hair cut, but that will all change this Friday.

“Rubey was determined to raise money for the charity by growing her hair long and having it cut and that is exactly what she did,” explained her mum Lisa. “She wants to help children who have lost their hair as a result of cancer treatment.

“The whole idea was Rubey’s and I am happy she is choosing to help others. She wants to help young girls who have lost their hair feel pretty.”

Anyone wishing to sponsor Rubey can sign a form at Minder’s menswear in Downpatrick or log on to her JustGiving page, keying in Rubey Medwell.
