A QUIZ in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care in Ardglass last weekend raised £728 for the charity.

The Mother’s Day table quiz at the Old Commercial Bar in the village was organised by Sean Keogh of the Ardglass Vikings whose mother Roisin sadly passed away last January at the cancer charity’s hospice at the Knock Road in Belfast.

Roisin was a member of staff at The Old Commercial for over two decades and also worked as a care assistant in a private nursing home. She worked as a home help and was known as a great advocate for all things good in the world and loved people and community spirit.

The prizes for the quiz teams and a raffle on the night were provided by local businesses which Mrs. Keogh also supported. Local historian, Michael Howland, asked the questions during a tough and entertaining quiz.

Michael, who is a founder member of Ardglass Vikings and a supporter of the organisation over many years, was presented with a commemorative polo shirt by the group’s chairman John Rodgers.

The money raised on the night was £228 and quiz organisers received an additional cheque for £500 from Ardglass Vikings Lady Captain, Nuala Magennis.

Sean would like to thank the businesses which supported last weekend’s quiz. They include

McDaids Chemist, Paddy Taggart (Curran’s Bar, Chapeltown), Lisa and Fiona (Eurospar Ardglass),

Milligan’s Shop, Brenda (The Village Salon) and Marcy’s Beauty Salon.

He added: “A special thanks to my mum’s former boss Sean Johnston and his wife Mary at The Old Commercial Bar.”

Sean’s brother Cormac is representing the Keogh family on a Transylvanian Trek in aid of Marie Curie this September and is organising a fundraising table quiz in Denvir’s Hotel on April 17. Donations can be made to this event by texting the amount to RORO82.
