Roan buzzing after winning spelling crown

A YOUNG spelling whiz from Castlewellan is hoping to be crowned the best in Ireland.

After winning the Down County Spelling Bee heat, Roan McIntosh (12), from St Patrick’s Primary School, Burrenreagh, will now go on to a further provincial heat ahead of the all-Ireland final in June. Here four provincial winners will battle it out to be crowned the 2017 Eason Spelling Bee Champion.

Primary Seven pupils from schools from across Northern Ireland have entered the competition this year. Among the local competitors were Eoin Mussen, St Malachy’s Primary School, Kilcoo, Fia McFall, St Joseph’s Primary School, Strangford, Freya Reid, Ballynahinch Primary School, Olivia McIlmail, St Patrick’s Primary School, Downpatrick and Rosa Carew, Millennium Integrated Primary School.
