Railway attraction on the right track with Excellence Award

17 August 2016

DOWNPATRICK and County Down Railway has been awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.

Now in its sixth year, the achievement celebrates hospitality businesses that have earned great traveller reviews on TripAdvisor over the past year.

Certificate of Excellence recipients include accommodation, eateries and attractions located all over the world that have continually delivered a quality customer experience.

Railway Chairman, Robert Gardiner, described the award as “yet another thumbs up for the local heritage railway.”

“This is a really big vote of thanks from our visitors”, he said.

“Trip Advisor reviews are generated solely by our visitors, and they’ve consistently kept the railway in the top three attractions in County Down.”

Whilst currently rated the third best attraction in County Down on Trip Advisor, the local heritage railway held the number two and three spots at the start of the year, beating the big name attractions like Castle Ward and Down County Museum.

“If any readers want to nip over to our page and leave a few more reviews, we’ll soon reclaim the number one spot,” he joked.

“In all seriousness, the high ratings the other top three attractions received demonstrates the wonderful and unique tourism offering there is in south Down.

The Downpatrick and County Down Railway’s ‘summer steam’ season continues every weekend throughout August and the first two September weekends.
