Praise for Jubilee celebrations

SIR, — I wish to congratulate the Killyleagh Heritage Association for the excellent Diamond Jubilee celebration events it organised in the town last week.

The organisation of all the events went off without any hitches and the weather also held up to allow the people of the town and surrounding area to mark the Queen’s 60-year reign.

From the fancy dress parade to the sports day at the Bridge Centre and the party in High Street to the lighting of the beacon, everything went according to plan.

Local people should take their hats off to the Killyleagh Heritage Association for its sterling efforts last week. All the events were free and the children were presented with goodie bags and jubilee medals.

Last Monday was a very proud day for Killyleagh which of course has its own link with the Royal family and the town celebrated Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee in style.

Monday’s events were of course followed last Thursday by the arrival of the Olympic torch in Down District and it was great that so many people turned out in local towns and villages to commemorate another very special event.

It was really refreshing to see the support both the Diamond Jubilee and Olympic torch events received.

Yours etc.,

CLLR. BILLY WALKER,

Killyleagh.
