Ploughing event for charity

1 March 2017

LISTOODER and District Ploughing Society hosted a successful charity ploughing match in Ardglass recently in support of Friends of the Cancer Centre.

A fantastic total of over £5,000 was handed over to the charity which provided support to Andrew Gill, the assistant secretary, following his diagnosis of leukaemia last year.

Andrew’s grandfather, Martin Gill, who is Chairman of Listooder Ploughing Society, said the society is greatly indebted to everyone who has supported the charity ploughing match and raised so much money for Friends of the Cancer Centre.

“Thank you to Colm Cultra for the use of an excellent site and also to Danny Leneghan, and his family, for their invaluable support,” he said. “To the competitors and judges who travelled from across Ireland, on behalf of our Society, thank you so much.

“Andrew is a keen Young Farmer so it was great to see so many Young Farmers Clubs take part in a fencing competition again this year. Thank you to Crosby Cleland for his support and guidance with the fencing competition. Massey’s of Saintfield provided hot food for us throughout the day which was an extremely generous donation for which we are grateful.”

Society President, Dai Kennedy, paid tribute to everyone who donated.

“We received wonderful support from local businesses, ploughing societies and competitors who were sponsored for competing. To everyone who donated online through our justgiving page, contributed to our ballot and either provided or bought an item at our auction, we are extremely grateful for the tremendous support.

“It was wonderful that Andrew Gill could be at our match to present the prizes and present the cheque to the charity. We all wish Andrew a full recovery and hope to see him back ploughing soon,” he said.
