Perfect Potters

28 October 2015

DRUMANESS Potters have moved into pole position with a demolition job on St Michael’s A.

With the gauntlet now laid down for the second year in a row, the rest of the teams are now playing catch up.

Bobby Douglas did not enjoy his night in the Dan Rice hall as Hugh Murdock steam rolled over him with breaks of 30, 29 ,45, 38 and 32 in a one-sided contest.

Stevie Anderson also produced the goods, although not in the flamboyant style of captain Hugh, but nevertheless he did the business against an out of sorts Michael O’Donnell.

With the score line now 4-0, the Potters were in full flow and Stevie McStravick had the daunting task of facing Raymie McAllister in the last match.

With the high standard of the match, one mistake in each frame from Stevie cost him the frames as Raymie rolled in breaks of 67 and 64 to wrap up the whitewash in style.

THIS Newcastle derby produced some great snooker, but the A team took the spoils to jump into second place behind the Potters.

CJ Martin stunned Stevie Mooney in their first frame, winning it comfortably 65-20. Stevie, unperturbed by the outcome, knuckled down and rattled in a couple of quick-fire 20 breaks to level the match at 1-1.

Thomas McCann, a new +28 registration, settled well into his league debut and had a real tussle with David Stevenson.

ith both frames going to the final few colours, a rub of the green in favour of McCann in both frames was enough to take him over the winning line to leave the A side 3-1 to the good.

Paul McCavery rattled the balls around the table, but still managed to come out the victor as Bob Wackett couldn’t convert any scoring chances and allowed Paul an easy victory.

With St Mary’s B at the bottom of the table, the good news on the horizon is that Gerard Travers is back on the practice table and ready for action.

BRIAN Gordon, still undefeated in the league, found the going tough against the maestro, John Weston.

John had Brian in all sorts of trouble in the first and managed to win it on the blue. The second frame was  a reversal of the first this time Brian getting over the line to level the scores at 1-1.

Michael Pollock looked sharp early on and conjured a 24 break from Rocco’s break off shot. Rocco was playing catch up the rest of the frame, but Michael proved too experienced to allow any unforced errors and took the frame on the yellow.

Michael ran rampant in the second also, although Rocco tried hard for the snookers he required is was all in vain as Michael ran home a comfortable 2-0 winner.

Ali Jess and Robert Pollock matched each other almost ball for ball, but both winning pots went to Ali. HE won the first on the pink and the second on the black to level the scores at 3-3.

THIS was a tough mid-table clash with both sides not wanting to give anything away.

Owen Maguire struck first for Bryansford, capitalising on a few unforced errors from Sean Burns. Owen was also looking good in the second, but a late 25 break from Sean swung the frame in his favour and allowed him to clinch it on the blue to level at 1-1.

Mark McKeown made short work of Andy Porter, Porter making his first appearance this season. Mark, with several 20-plus breaks broke no sweat to give St Michael’s the advantage.

Gabe Burns quickly pulled one back for Bryansford and was hoping to level the match in the next frame, but Tommy McMenamy had other ideas and stole the frame by potting yellow, green and brown to leave Gabe needing snookers. After some failed snooker attempts Tommy potted the blue and secured the win.

PAUL Meghaey, another player undefeated, was up against the NI U-21 champion Eamon Ferris.

In the first frame Eamon went all-out for his shots, allowing Paul to pick of the reds and colours and amass an unattainable lead, which was enough to take the opener.

Eamon quickly re-established himself in the second and took the frame with a late 30 break.

Steven Madine recorded his first win of the season by beating Matt Fegan 2-0.

Matt couldn’t find any answers to Steven’s long potting and safety play and ultimately went down 2-0.

Gareth McKeever found his stride quickly and got in among the balls early. This, coupled with his handicap advantage, meant he took the first frame unthreatened.

Mark Boyd tightened up his game in the second and potted some great balls to leave Gareth sidelined for most of the frame and keep the Jodies firmly in third place with a long way to go.
