Patricia gets ready for her latest walk in aid of charity

24 July 2013

A DOWNPATRICK woman is walking from Dublin to Derry in aid of leukaemia research.

Patricia Watterson, a veteran of charity walks, is taking part in the challenge to honour of a close family member who has been diagnosed with the disease.

Starting on August 1, the 150 mile walk will take her through Slane, Carrickmacross, Castleblaney, Monaghan, Omagh, Newtownstewart and Strabane.

She expects to be in Derry by August 12.

Patricia walked from Dublin to Galway for Cancer Research last August and in 2008 from Malin Head to Mizen Head for Marie Curie.

“For this one Leukaemia Research took us round the labs, showed us their various instruments, what they were for and how much they cost, and explained the cost of funding scholarships,” said Patricia.

“I will be walking on my own but various people have said they will join me at the weekend.

“We have the official buckets and we are going to collect as we go. The Lord Mayor of Dublin has agreed to see me off at the GPO and he is going to give me a letter to congratulate the Lord Mayor of Derry on Derry being City of Culture and hosting the All Ireland Fleadh on August 11.”
