Newcastle show to aid kids’ charity

27 November 2013

NEWCASTLE’S Slieve Donard Hotel will be the venue for a fashion show and Christmas Fayre in aid of the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children this Saturday.

The event is being held to raise funds for the charity’s new Daisy Lodge short break centre, currently under construction on the outskirts of the resort which is due to open next spring.

The new building will be able to facilitate free short breaks for up to 500 families a year who are living with a cancer diagnosis.

The state-of-the-art therapeutic centre — which is the first of its kind in the UK and Ireland — is situated at the foothills of the Mournes and will provide a relaxing home from home environment for exhausted families before, during and after cancer treatment.

This weekend’s Slieve Donard event promises to showcase all of the latest fashions and will be packed with stalls overflowing with tempting goodies, perfect for some Christmas shopping.

The Cancer Fund’s Joan Burden, who is one of the event organisers, is urging people to come along and enjoy a great day out, whilst making a real difference to the lives local families affected by cancer.

She added: “This is such an exciting event because it is being held right before Daisy Lodge opens. Funds raised on the day will help us provide short breaks for exhausted families who are in need of quality time together. I would like to thank all the local businesses that have offered generous support.”

Tickets for the event, priced £10, are available from Smyth’s in Newcastle and JR’s Discount Store in Castlewellan. Tickets will also be available at the door on the night at 7pm, with the fashion show starting 30 minutes later. The cost of setting up a stand at the event is £25.
