Newcastle collection to raise money for Concern

SIR, — Supporters of overseas charity Concern Worldwide will be holding a street collection in Newcastle on Saturday, December 17, to raise vital funds for international relief.

Particularly in East Africa, millions are going without food right now. Concern is working to provide emergency supplies that will stop children suffering the long term effects of chronic hunger, and running projects to get families back on their feet.

The people of Newcastle have shown exceptional generosity to Concern over the years, and even though times are tight locally we are confident that they will continue to support our appeal. It’s no exaggeration to say that the donations we receive on Saturday will save lives.

Concern works in 25 of the poorest countries in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean, delivering emergency aid and long term projects to improve access to health, education and a secure livelihood. Concern spends donor funds wisely and well and its latest set of accounts have won a major award for transparency.

Yours etc.,

KAREN GALLAGHER,

Director, Concern NI.
