Neil stunning form lands him coveted cricket award

YOU have to be in top form to win an Ulster Bank Northern Cricket Union Senior League award — it means hitting a century, taking at least six wickets or performing a hat-trick.

So step forward Drumaness all-rounder Neil Gelston who, in the space of less than a month, has won an award in all three categories.

First up came the century when he hit 132 against Armagh in the last game in June, followed by two more awards in late July against Victoria when he returned the remarkable figures of seven wickets for just six runs, including a hat-trick.

It’s thought only one other player — David Greenlees of Academy — has achieved such a hat-trick of awards, but it’s never been done in one season until now.

A fourth award has gone to Drumaness, with Darren Oldroyd taking 6 for 41 in the game that Gelston scored his century against Armagh.

The awards were presented in Belfast last week and three more went to Downpatrick players.

Amit Patil picked up two for centuries against Lurgan (153) and Academy (133) and Craig Boultwood scored 100 not out against Muckamore.
