Nathan heading for trip of lifetime to Belgian project

DROMARA Cycling Club’s Nathan Mullan is heading off to Belgium for a four-week stint of highly competitive cycling.

Nathan’s cycling career has gone from strength to strength since he took up the hobby in a more committed way just under five years ago.

Quickly moving up the ranks, the 22 year-old came into 2016 well on his way to qualification into the A1 class, a pair of podium places, including a win confirming his promotion to the top class earlier this year.

His performances over the last number of months have been watched and noted by many. Impressed by his recent run of results, the renowned cycling guru Dany Blondeel selected Nathan to be

sent to Belgium for four weeks of training and racing, the biggest opportunity of his career to date.

Nathan leaves Newcastle on Saturday to start his four week scholarship in Belgium, hoping he can increase his profile and be noticed on the European stage.

“This is an absolutely fantastic opportunity, one that I’ve spent the last couple of weeks living for. Dany approached me at the Noel Taggart race a couple of weeks ago offering me the chance to travel, and with the help and support of a number of people I’m able to go and make the most of it.

“We will normally have two races during the week and two at the weekends, so it’s going to be hard. Over there the racing is harder and faster, with more acceleration out of the corners, so I hope I can be near the sharp end and get noticed by others. Thank you so much to Dany Blondeel and The Belgian Project.”
