Music for all as summer season gets underway

Music for all as summer season gets underway

12 July 2017

THERE is a weekend of music to suit all tastes this weekend at Newcastle Summer Season.

Fresh from the success of presenting the Northern Irish premiere of The Drowsy Chaperone and following last year’s Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5, Newcastle Glees Musical Society kicks off a summer season packed with music. At Newcastle Community Cinema on Friday they perform their concert entitled Summer Song from Broadway and Beyond.

Featuring popular music and songs from musicals such as 9 to 5, The Lion King, Les Miserables, as well as a selection from their forthcoming 2018 production Sister Act, this award-winning, long established society has a wealth of talent and experience in performing songs from the very best of musical theatre and beyond.

On Saturday, Musicon Entertainment present The Iconettes, backed by their band The Hitzvilles. Paying tribute to the famous girl groups and solo artists of Mowtown and Soul’s golden era – The Three Degrees, The Supremes, The Ronettes, Martha and The Vandellas and Aretha Franklin – creates a back for The Iconette’s glamour, style and musical influences. Their stunning show is a crowd pleasing, tightly choreographed homage to the iconic hits of the 60s and 70s. Dancing shoes are required.

Summer Nights at Newcastle Summer Season offers a variety of live theatre events and music performances every Friday and Saturday night throughout July and August at Newcastle Community Cinema, St Mary’s Hall, Main Street, Newcastle.

Evening performances will all take place in Newcastle Community Cinema and start at 8pm with bar facilities from 7pm.
