Mrs Sarah Mary McClements

MRS Sarah Mary McClements, who died peacefully at her home, 10 Racecourse Hill, Downpatrick, was a retired nurse who will be fondly remembered by many people. She was 91.

Known to all as Sadie, Mrs McClements thoroughly enjoyed her nursing career at the Downshire Hospital which began in 1958 and ended after 28 years as the result of a fall.

On retirement she had her husband, Billy, enjoyed many holidays in Jersey, which was their favourite destination.

After her husband’s passing, Mrs McClements enjoyed the company and activities of the Evergreens, a church friendship group which she attended up until her health deteriorated.

She was a keen knitter, particularly for her children and grandchildren, and also enjoyed baking and reading. She was an avid reader of autobiographies for many years, but unfortunately she became visually impaired in 2018.

The Rev Capt Scott McDonald conducted the funeral service in Down Parish Church on September 18.

Mrs McClements is survived by her son, William, daughters Jean, Mary and Alma, grandchildren and great grandchildren to whom the sympathy of the community is extended.
