Mrs Lila Edgar

MRS Lila Edgar, who passed away in Downe Hospital on January 7 aged 97, was Kilmore’s oldest resident.

The daughter of Thomas and Margaret Nelson, Kilmore, she was born on November 9, 1918, two days before the end of the First World War.

She got married on July 2, 1947, to Thomas Edgar, of Quoile Bridge, Downpatrick, who passed away in July 1999.

During the Second World War she worked at Short Bros & Harland in Belfast, boosting the war effort by making wings for aeroplanes. In later years she had many stories to tell about this period in her life.

Mrs Edgar was a quiet, private person, whose chief interest lay in the lives of her extended family both at home and abroad.

She is survived by her brother, Robert, nephews Tom, George and Douglas Nelson, nieces Helen Rea, Margaret Rooney, Eleanor Brewster, Lilia Mason and Sarah Nelson, and the wider family circle.

The Rev Stephen Smyth and Canon John Bell conducted the largely attended funeral service in Kilmore Parish Church on Sunday, January 10, which was followed by interment in the adjoining churchyard.
