Mrs Elizabeth Green

THE sudden death of Mrs Elizabeth Green at her home, 54 Magheralone Road, Ballynahinch, on June 17 has aroused much sadness.

A much loved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and sister, Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Dominic, daughter Una and sons Paul and Dominic.

She was born on January 6, 1949, to Francis and Mary McKenny, Drumaroad, the second child of a family of six, her siblings being James, Francis, Anne, John and Mary.

She was educated at Drumaroad Primary School and Assumption Grammar School, Ballynahinch, and went on to work in an administrative role at Belfast Gasworks.

Elizabeth married Dominic Green on September 15, 1970 at St John the Baptist Church, Drumaroad.

The couple were to enjoy 46 years of marriage, living at Magheralone Road.

Eizabeth and Dominic had three surviving children, Una, Paul and Dominic, who were to marry their respective partners, Seamus, Joanne and Orlagh. They were also blessed with five grandchildren, Ellen, Rachel, James, Claire and Katherine. They took a great interest in their lives and loved them dearly.

Over the years Elizabeth worked in a variety of jobs, including as head cook at the Park House Inn, Drumaness, and at Bell’s Poultry canteen in Crossgar.

She was an active member of her local community and assisted with many organisations and societies, including Teconnaught Playgroup, Home-help and Teconnaught Tuesday Club, with which she had her last active role.  Elizabeth gave selflessly of her time to anyone, young or old.

Her pastimes included cooking, flower arranging, gardening and sewing. Elizabeth was a kind-hearted, friendly, outgoing and hard-working lady and could turn her hand to any DIY jobs at home. She enjoyed reading and meeting friends and family members for coffee. She also enjoyed shopping trips and, in later years, Sunday outings with her beloved husband.

Following her funeral at Holy Family Church, Teconnaught, on June 20, Elizabeth was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. Elizabeth’s passing has left a huge void in the lives of many people. She will be very sadly missed by all her friends and her family.
