Mrs Catherine Mason

THE community in Downpatrick was saddened by the death of Mrs Catherine Mason. Mrs Mason passed away peacefully at her Lynn Doyle Place home on October 27. She was 86.

Hard work and family were key factors in Mrs Mason’s long and happy life. After leaving school she went to work in the tannery in Killyleagh and later at the mill in Comber.

She met her husband, Mickey, and moved to Downpatrick, where she reared a loving family. When her youngest child went to school Mrs Mason went back to work and was a housekeeper for the same family for over 22 years.

After her retirement Mrs Mason took up bowls and particularly enjoyed playing against her husband.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her beloved husband, ten children — sons John, Brendan, Kevin, Mickey and Conleth, and daughters Patricia, Margaret, Eleanor, Laura and Andi — 26 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

The funeral mass was held in St Patrick’s Church on Monday, October 30, and was followed by interment in Struell Cemetery.
