Mrs Angela Carpenter

MRS Angela Carpenter, of Ardpatrick Avenue, Downpatrick, who died in Downe Hospital on May 8, will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She was 74.

She was a domestic in Downshire Hospital for 34 years and was a popular colleague.

A native of Downpatrick, she suffered a tragedy when her husband, Sammy, died at the age of 34. With her young son, Harry, she left Ballywalter and returned to the family home in Downpatrick where her parents, Joy and Redmond, helped her to raise Harry.

Angela enjoyed life and loved to go dancing in the Bay Inn, Dundrum, every Saturday night. She also loved family celebrations where she was the life and soul of the party. In later years she enjoyed bingo and amusements.

Harry, who was her only child, died suddenly ten years ago, followed by her mother two weeks and two days later. Not long afterwards Angela required major heart surgery. She was also diagnosed by cancer, but following surgery and radiotherapy she bounced back.

Unfortunately, cancer took hold elsewhere seven months ago and it was terminal. Angela bravely carried on and never complained. She was a very kind and generous person and a joy to be with.

Fr Maurice Henry conducted requiem mass in St Colmcille’s Church on May 11, which was followed by interment in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Killough Road.

Angela is survived by her brothers, Reamie and Lenny, sister Cath and partner Vincent. May she rest in peace.
