MRS. Patricia Vaughan, of Ardmeen Green, Downpatrick, who died in Downe Hospital on February 15, was a retired nursing assistant. She was 85.
An extremely kind and caring lady, Mrs. Vaughan was an active member of the Catholic Nurses Guild when she worked at the Downshire Hospital and for many years took part in pilgrimages to Lourdes as a helper.
Caring for others was what she enjoyed most and she also made twice yearly pilgrimages to Knock where she made many great friendships with people throughout Ireland.
Mrs. Vaughan was a keen knitter, both by hand and machine.
She attended a knitting group until her health began to fade some years ago and was always knitting for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The largely attended funeral in St. Patrick’s Church on February 18 was conducted by Canon Sean Rogan, who was assisted by the Very Rev. Eugene O’Neill (Killyleagh) in the interment at Struell Cemetery.
Mrs. Vaughan is survived by her husband, Senan, daughter Anne, sons Colum and Kieran, daughters-in-law Ann and Margaret, 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
