THE death has occurred of Mrs. Mona Brennan of Drumnaconnor, near Teconnaught, who passed away peacefully at the Downe Hospital on April 12 in the company of her loving family.
Mrs. Brennan, who was 82, was born to the late James and Ellen McLeigh, on August 16, 1930, in the Magheratimpany area, near Drumaness, and grew up with her sisters, Una and Carmel. She also had a very close relationship with her cousin, Maveen.
She was a very intellectual lady and had longed to be a nurse but due to the austerity at the time she started work in the local mill in Drumaness at the age of 14.
She married the late Daniel Brennan in 1951 and they lived together in Drumnaconnor all of their married life with their four children, Sean, Susie, Gerard and Vivien, surrounded by her loving extended family, neighbours and close friends.
Mrs. Brennan had a natural flair for baking and cooking. She enjoyed playing indoor bowls for Teconnaught and was very competitive. She had a great interest in all sports especially local football and supported her two sons for many years.
She was great at quizzes and jigsaw puzzles and had a great interest in world affairs and history. Mrs. Brennan loved to travel and took the opportunity when she could.
She was greatly involved in the church and the parish community. Despite a number of illnesses, she showed great strength and was always in great spirits. She always enjoyed a chat with friends and family and was someone that many people turned to for advice and guidance.
She gave her complete devotion to her family and nursed her late husband in his long illness.
She is sadly missed but will be lovingly remembered as a devoted sister, wife, mother, mother-in -law, grandmother, great grandmother and cherished friend to all who knew her.
Her funeral took place on Monday, April 15, at Holy Family Church, Teconnaught, and was followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery. Fr. Maurice Henry and Fr. Pat McKenna officiated at the service.
