Mrs. Mary Woodside

IT was with great sadness that the community in Killyleagh learned of the death of Mrs. Mary Woodside, of 10 Inishbeg Road, on February 25, 2013.

Mrs. Woodside, who was 83, was born in Co. Leitrim on January 3, 1830, to Patrick and Martha O’Loughlin. The family moved to Fountain Street in Downpatrick around 1942.

When the family later moved to England, Mary and her brother, Michael, remained behind and stayed with their great aunt, Annie Kelly. Mary worked at United Chrometanners in Shrigley where she met her late husband, James.

The couple were blessed with nine children — six boys and three girls — who became Mrs. Woodside’s life. She was devoted to her children and later to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Woodside had a great interest in camogie and often went to matches with her daughter. She also enjoyed bingo and travelled with her best friend, Mary Coughlin.
