THE death of Mrs. Jean Cheevers, of 19 Cross Street, Killyleagh, has aroused much sadness.
Mrs. Cheevers (née Watson) passed away at her son Austin’s home on January 13. She was 81.
Mrs. Cheevers was well known for her baking skills and she opened her own bakery in Killyleagh in the 1960s. Later, she worked at the Plessey factory in Ballynahinch.
She acquired many good friends throughout her life and in the last few years was an active member of the Killyleagh and Shrigley Friendship Club.
She travelled widely after her retirement and loved finding new countries to visit. She also enjoyed playing bowls, darts and bingo.
To her family and close friends, she was fondly known as ‘Jean the Bean.” She lived a full life and will be sorely missed.
The Rev. Jerome Munyangaju conducted the funeral service in St. John the Evangelist Church, Killyleagh. Interment was in First Presbyterian churchyard.
She is survived by her sons, Desmond, Austin, John and Richard, and by a sister, Nan.
