THE death of Mrs. Isobel Dawes, of 14 Springvale Drive, Downpatrick, in Lecale Lodge Nursing Home on May 9 at the age of 88 has been widely mourned.
She was the wife Leslie Dawes, a former Down Recorder reporter who went on to forge a successful career with Ulster Television, for 68 years and mother of Michael.
Mrs. Dawes, who was known to all as Belle, was a former hairdresser and also worked for many years in Hugh W. Kelly’s hardware shop in Market Street, Downpatrick, before ill health forced her retirement.
She was a very sociable lady, who enjoyed mixing with people and visiting her many friends. Outside her family, her interests included music, cooking, baking, Bingo and knitting, both by machine and by hand.
Mrs. Dawes will be deeply missed by her husband, son, nieces, nephews and extended family circle.
Requiem mass was celebrated by Canon Sean Rogan in St. Patrick’s Church on May 11 and was followed by interment in Struell Cemetery.
