Mrs. Cora Sharpe

MRS. Cora Esther Beatrice Sharpe, of 13 Ardmeen Green, Downpatrick, who died in Spa Nursing Home aged 88, was a retired school teacher who will be fondly remembered by the many children who benefited from her care and guidance.

Mrs. Sharpe taught for many years at Downpatrick Primary School where she was a respected colleague, friend and mother figure.

Outside of education she had many interests and participated fully in community life.

She was a member of Downpatrick Women’s Institute, Save the Children, the Abbeyfield Society, Cancer Research and the Presbyterian Women’s Association.

She was a friend of both the Down Museum and Down Cathedral. She was highly skilled in baking and needlework, and had a great love of the natural world around her.

The loving care shown to Mrs. Sharpe during her illness by her many friends, health care professionals and community care staff has been greatly appreciated by her family.

The Rev. Owen Patterson conducted the funeral service in Downpatrick Presbyterian Church on August 25, which was followed by interment in the adjoining churchyard.

Mrs. Sharpe is survived by her son Robert, daughter Denise, sister Anne, brother David, nieces and nephews.
