Mrs. Bernadette Flynn

MRS. Bernadette Flynn, who has died aged 89, was a respected and popular member of the Downpatrick community who will be much missed.

Mrs. Flynn passed away at her home, Mount Carmel, Edward Street, surrounded by her loving family. She had suffered from Alzheimer’s for approximately 15 years and had been cared for at home by her family.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose interests included gardening, walking, bingo and whist drives.

She was involved her church and enjoyed trips to Knock, Lough Derg, Lourdes, Fatima and Rome. She was also a patron of St. Patrick’s Choral Society.

At her largely attended funeral in St. Patrick’s Church, requiem mass, which was concelebrated by Canon Sean Rogan and Fr. Brendan Mulhall, was followed by interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Killough Road.

Mrs. Flynn is survived by her son, Patrick, daughters Cecelia, Mary, Brenda, Carmel, Veronica, Martina, Colette, Marcella and Paula, sisters Ceilie and Josephine, daughter-in-law, sons-in-law, 37 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

 

She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick, in 1978, and by two daughters, Angela in March this year, and Geraldine in 1953.
