Mr Samuel Ard

MR Samuel Ard, who died at his home at Tremaine Road, Anerley, in London, on September 19 aged 82, was a former Ballynahinch man.

Mr Ard moved to London 50 years ago on his marriage to his wife, Valerie, who survives him along with their daughter, Samantha, son Tara and grandson Louis. He was a cashier at King’s Hospital in London.

Formerly of Lisburn Road, Ballynahinch, he was a renowned sportsman in his early years. He played football for Drumaness Mills, cricket for Ballynahinch and hockey for Montalto Ballynahinch.

He also enjoyed writing and reported on the hockey front for the Down Recorder from the early 1950s until he left for London in 1965.

The funeral service in Douglas’ Funeral Church, Ballynahinch, on October 2 was conducted by Canon Warren Russell.
