Mr Ringland McFarlane

MR Ringland Fisher McFarlane, of 1 Kilwood Close, Crossgar, passed away in Downe Hospital on April 9, aged 93.

Mr McFarlane enjoyed a long and healthy life and continued to drive and play bowls until last autumn.

Born in Ballygowan, he was the son of Frank and Lily McFarlane and lived at Raffrey until 1986 when he moved to Crossgar. A retired engineer at Harland & Wolff Ltd, his interests included bowls, holidays and his family.

Mr MacFarlane was predeceased in 2014 by his wife, May. Married in 1947, they celebrated 67 years of married life and had been at a garden party at Hillsborough Castle hosted by The Queen, who married the Duke of Edinburgh in the same year.

He loved his family, particularly his great granddaughters, who brought him much joy.

The service of thanksgiving in Raffrey Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, April 11, was conducted by the Rev Ian Abraham, who was assisted by the Rev Brian Small.

Mr McFarlane is survived by his daughters, Marie and Elizabeth, grandchildren Nicola, Donna and David, their spouses Stephen, Brian and Jennifer, great granddaughters Isla, Kaitlyn, Amelia and Erin, and by a sister, Betty.
