Mr Reggie McGreevy

MR Richard (Reggie) McGreevy, of 58 St Patrick’s Road, Raholp, who died peacefully in Downe Hospital on June 3 at the age of 87, was a popular and respected member of his community and will be much missed.

Reggie was widely known throughout the Raholp and Saul area as one of three identical triplets. When a bowls team was established in the Saul area all three of them were members.

The early part of his working career was spent at Myra Castle. He later worked for many years as a groundsman with the Housing Executive and retired in the early 1990s.

He never had much time for hobbies, having worked most evenings and weekends doing various gardening jobs, including the upkeep of the grounds at St Patrick’s Church.

Reggie’s main interest was his family. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Mary, who passed away in 2009, and a loving father to Helena, Richard and Mary. He was a dear father-in-law to Dominic, Eimear and Kevin, cherished grandfather to Michael, Ella, Dearbhla, Odhran, Mary-Kate and Maggie, and dear brother to Benedict, Pamela and the late Hubert and Gerard.

In his later years he enjoyed walking and was a familiar figure on the roads around Raholp and Ballintogher.

To everyone he was a friend and a gentlemen, and the respect in which he was held was evident by the large attendance at his funeral in St Patrick’s Church on June 6. Requiem mass, which was celebrated by Fr Paul Alexander, PP, was followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.

The sympathy of the community is extended to his family.
