Mr Peter Quinn

IT was with great sadness that the community of Ballynoe and surrounding area learned of the passing of Mr Peter Quinn.

Peter passed away at the Ulster Hospital on September 1. He was 76.

The son of Sammy and Annie Quinn, from Marshallstown (Ballynoe), Peter was a widower who was sadly predeceased by his daughter, Maura, in 2007 and his wife, Rita, in 2015.

He is survived by his sons, Anthony, Declan, Eugene and Ciaran, his sisters, Mary, Sally and Isobel, brothers-in-law and grandchildren. Peter will be greatly missed by all.

Peter was a big gentle giant, whose life revolved around his family, his garden, and of course his pigeons. Involved in pigeon racing from his teenage years, he was a founding member of Tyrella Homing Pigeon Society and was also a member of the Downpatrick club.

Peter spent most of his working life as a mental health nurse at the Downshire Hospital, where he was highly thought of by his colleagues and those he looked after and cared for.

After his retirement he spent several years working at Spa Nursing Home.

Requiem Mass was held at St Colmcille’s Church, Downpatrick on September 3, with Fr Liam Toland officiating.
