MICHAEL McDowell, of Johns Crescent, Downpatrick, who died in Downe Hospital on April 7, was a popular figure in his home town, where he spent his entire life.
Known to all as Micky, he was the youngest of a family of six boys and two girls. Predeceased by brothers Jack, Jimmy, Gerry and Dicky, and sister Jeannie, he is survived by his brother, Basil, his twin sister, Ann, nieces, nephews and the wider family circle.
He was the son of Alec and Annie McDowell. His father was a founder of the member of the RGU in Downpatrick and Micky shared his interest in the GAA — he was an avid supporter of the Down GAA. He also had a keen interest in horse racing and snooker.
Micky’s funeral on April 20 was private owing to the Covid-19 restrictions. However, family members, neighbours and friends turned out in John Street to ensure his passing did not unnoticed. For this his family are truly thankful.
Micky was laid to rest in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Killough Road.
