Mr Michael Burns

MR Michael ‘Mike’ Burns, of Teconnaught, passed away peacefully in Belfast City Hospital on September 12, aged 77.

A devoted husband, loving father and treasured grandfather, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends, especially his wife, Lil, children Donna, Paul, Damian and Angeline, and his 12 precious grandchildren.

One of seven children, Michael was born on May 13, 1939, son to Mickey and Mary Burns, brother to the late James, Colm and Gerard, and survived by Pat, Mary and Martin.

As a young man he worked on the family farm, leading the horse and plough at Slieveniskey, until his brother, James, got him a job working for Walls Contractors in Carryduff. Following this, he worked for 37 years for McQuillan Bros Contracts, Belfast. Michael married Lil on October 16, 1967, and moved to Teconnaught where together they made a loving home and raised their four children.

A family man who loved his grandchildren, Michael always had a kind word to say and a sweet in his pocket to to share.

He enjoyed a flutter on the horses and a trip to the bingo to try his luck. Gardening was another of his passions and he spent many hours trending to his plants, shrubs and vegetables. He also loved country music and spent many summer evenings enjoying the music and craic in Bundoran with Lil.

The sun shone brightly on September 14 when Michael’s funeral took place in Holy Family Church, Teconnaught. Fr Eugene O’Neill conducted the beautiful requiem mass.
