Mr James McMullan

MR James McMullan, Ballintogher Road, Downpatrick, who died on January 7, was a popular member of his community and will be much missed. He was 74.

Known to all as ‘Skipper,’ he was a carpenter by trade. As a highly skilled craftsman, no job was too big or too small. In earlier years he erected hayseeds for neighbours, but his true craftsmanship shone through when he was working in houses, particularly old houses.

He had a wicked sense of humour and was happiest playing pranks on friends and neighbours, who took great delight in trying to pay him back, but not always succeeding.

He was a gentleman who loved his home and garden, and the time he spent with his extended family, including his beloved surrogate family, was his greatest pleasure.

Mr McMullan is survived by his wife, Celine, brother Patrick, sisters Veronica and Loretta, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and a large family circle. He was predeceased by a sister, Teenie.

Fr Paul Alexander, PP, conducted requiem mass in St Patrick’s Church, Saul.
