Mr James Ferguson

THERE is much sadness in his family and in the wider community at the recent death of Mr James Ferguson, of 11 Springhill Park, Downpatrick, who passed away on October 28 in Marie Curie Hospice, Belfast, after a short illness.

Jimmy, who was born in Ballynagross, outside Downpatrick, was the only son of Lily and James Ferguson and was educated by the De La Salle Brothers in Downpatrick.

He was employed by Charles Hurst Ltd, Belfast, for 57 years and throughout his working career he was awarded many accolades, especially from top marques such as Bentley, Ferrari and Jaguar.

He was well respected, friendly and much loved by everyone who knew him, especially his family, neighbours and work colleagues, who knew him as ‘Gentleman Jim.’

A noted soccer player in his younger days and a keen golfer and hill walker, Jimmy lived his life to the full. He touched the lives of many people in his unique, unassuming way and encouraged and fostered many young people in their careers.

The funeral mass in St Patrick’s Church, Downpatrick, on October 31 was celebrated Fr Liam Toland, CC, and was followed by interment at Struell Cemetery.

The sympathy of the community is extended to his wife, Jean, daughter Laura, son-in-law Ken, grandchildren Ryan and Niamh, and sisters Anne and Brenda.
