Mr Hal Shilliday

NEWCASTLE Lions Club members were sad to learn of the death of their good friend and past president, Hal Shilliday, after a short illness on December 3, 2018.

Hal, who was 80, was a past committee member of Age Concern and was very helpful to new members settling in in the transport section. He had a great knowledge of the workings of committees and how to prepare minutes.

Hal joined the Lions in 1996 and

became president in 2001. While a very private person, Hal was not afraid of a challenge.

On May 11, 2005, when he was 67 he joined with others to complete  a sponsored abseil for the NI Cancer fund for Children from the top of Castlewellan Castle.

After completing this Hal said his last “bucket list” wish was to complete a zip line  from the YMCA. The following year Hal’s main priority was to care for his ill wife, Anne who died in 2007.

Hal’s humour and advice will be missed by all.
