Mr Bill Norwood

MR William Johnston Norwood, who died peacefully at his home, 1 Moyra Crescent, Saintfield, on August 17, was a popular and highly respected member of the community. He was 90.

Mr Norwood, who was known to his family and many friends as Bill, was a retired company manager.

He worked for A S Baird in Belfast for 40 years and ended his career by setting up and managing the company’s car rental business.

Mr Norwood was a long standing member of 1st Saintfield Presbyterian Church and served on the church committee for many years.

He was deeply involved in Masonic circles, being a member of St Patrick’s Union Lodge No 367, Downpatrick, and the Royal Arch Chapter, as well as being an honorary member of St Patrick’s Preceptory.

Mr Norwood was also a keen bowler. He was a member and past president of Saintfield Bowling Club and a member of Belfast Indoor Bowls Club.

Mr Norwood is survived by his wife, Gladys, sons Laurence and Richard, daughter Anne, son-in-law Trevor and grandchildren Stephen, Gemma, Patrick, James and David.

The Rev Ivor Ferris and the Rev Jonathan Currie conducted the funeral service in 1st Saintfield Presbyterian Church on August 20.
