THE death has taken place in Edmonton, Canada, of former Annacloy man, Mr. William McCreedy. He was 100 years old.
He was born the eldest son of the late James and Myra McCreedy, of Dunanelly, Annacloy, on September 10, 1913.
At the age of 15 his aunt took him out to Canada along with his late sister, Louise, for a better life.
After a few different jobs he started to work for the Pavey Candy Company in 1929 working his way to the top earning the title The Candy Man — and most of his family in Northern Ireland enjoyed his candy.
He married his wife OLga and they had two children. Sadly Olga died in 1961 after a fatal fire, and his daughter Joan passed away in March this year. His son Jim still lives in Canada.
He was also predeceased by his brothers Tommy in England and Jimmy, in Downpatrick, sisters Nell, Louise, and Kathleen, in Canada, Sally, in England, and Gertie, in Ireland.
His remaining sisters continue to live in Down — Mary Fell, in Downpatrick, and Evelyn Clark, in Killyleagh.
His late sister Nells moved out to Canada in 1962 with daughter Myrtle and lived with him. Myrtle took care of him until his passing in July, two months short of his 101st birthday.
