Mr. Terence Fitzsimons

THE farming community and beyond came together in their sorrow at the tragic and untimely death of one its members, Mr. Terence Fitzsimons, of Blackcauseway Road, Strangford, who passed away peacefully in the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald, on March 1.

Terence, who was 32, was the youngest of three boys born into a long line of farmers.

He attended St. Malachy’s Primary School, Kilclief, and later De La Salle High School in Downpatrick.

Terence’s great love of the land persuaded him to leave school in order to further his passion. He attended Greenmount Agricultural College where he learned the skills necessary to start his own agricultural contracting business.

Terence was known for his gentle nature and infectious smile. His many fine qualities, not least his loyalty and reliability, earned him the respect of all those with whom he came into contact.

This admiration was reflected in the large number of people who came to his home. His hugely attended funeral took place on March 4 in Stella Maris Church in Strangford, the church where he was christened. Requiem mass was celebrated by Fr. Colm McGrady and Fr. Sean Gilmore, with interment at St. Malachy’s Cemetery, Kilclief.

Terence is survived by his parents, Terry and Madeline, brothers Conleith and Ignatius, sister-in-law Patricia, nephews Dean and Lee, nieces Shireen and Connie, and the wider family circle.
