Mr. John Kevin Brennan

MR. Kevin Brennan, formerly of The Lough, Drumnaconagher, and more recently John Street and Abbeyfield House, Downpatrick, was a popular and respected member of the community who believed in helping others. He was 80.

His instinct for doing good was honed from an early age. His father died when he was aged 16 and so he helped his mother with the task of looking after his ten younger siblings

A labourer and lorry driver by occupation, Mr. Brennan immersed himself in many community activities.

He was a member of Drumaness SDLP branch and once served as branch chairman. He helped out at the bingo sessions at Teconnaught where on one occasion his sister Anne won the £100 prize.

He also did a lot of work in connection with Holy Family Church, Teconnaught, which included cutting grass and keeping graves tidy.

When he moved to Downpatrick about ten years ago he soon became known to Canon Sean Rogan and was enlisted into the counting of money envelopes.

He enjoyed anything to do with the Church. Fifteen years ago he and some friends started a Rosary group which met each Tuesday at Tobar Mhuire monastery in Crossgar. He had great faith and prayed for anyone who was in trouble. He was also a lifelong Pioneer.

Sadly, he broke a thigh bone in July last year and this began 11 months of sickness which he bore with great courage.

Mr. Brennan is survived by his brothers, Vincent, Peter, Joe, Frank, Davy, Robert and James, and by his sisters, Sister Rita Brennan (Zambia) and Ann (Drumaness).
